Growing Up with Anne of Green Gables: A Poem

Here’s a little poem by me, on my favourite female fictional character of all time — Anne Cuthbert. Say it with an E, if you please.

Anne with an E, a girl of dreams,
With the wildest of thoughts and fanciest schemes,
A friend to all, yet with her mind to herself,
She filled her days with books from her shelf.

A true kindred spirit, of her heart she would speak,
In fields of flowers and by the calm creek,
She lived in a world with colors so bright,
Where troubles and sadness are banished from sight.

Her red hair in braids, a freckled nose,
A fiery spirit that constantly grows,
Her wonder and awe, she spreads with such ease,
As she talks of the world, with no hint of unease.

Anne of Green Gables, the book of the age,
A treasure that all young girls should engage,
It tells of a girl who grew up so quick,
A friend to us all, as we turn every page.

Her love of beauty, her never-ending will,
Her strength in adversity, to make her dreams real,
A girl of simple pleasures, with a heart so true,
She reminds us to dream, to aspire and to do.

For every girl with a mind of her own,
For every girl who feels she’s all alone,
Anne of Green Gables is the book for you,
Where imagination soars, and hearts feel anew.

So pick up a book and journey to Avonlea,
Enter the world of Anne with an E,
A kindred spirit you’ll surely find,
And leave your worries far behind.

If you’re like me, and can’t get enough of Anne of Green Gables, here are some similar reads which you will love.
