Hand lettering 101

Hand lettering is the meeting of words, with the beauty of art.

It’s how you express normal words through creative decorations and fonts, while at the same time remembering to enjoy what you’re doing.

Most of the time, people get overwhelmed by the things they see other skilled people doing on the Internet, and resort to accepting that they can’t do what others do. However, that’s not right. Everyone is capable of everything, and it’s just us that says we can’t.

Hand lettering requires patience and a whole lot of self-confidence. Without those things, you may give up too easily, or begin to think that what you’re doing isn’t that great/good-looking. Also, you’ll need a creative mind that doesn’t think about limitations or rules. There are no rules when it comes to being creative, and no limitations either.

The basics:

  1. Be creative
  2. Don’t limit yourself
  3. Be happy with the results
  4. Keep moving forward (even if you make mistakes)

What you need to get started:

  1. A pencil
  2. Or maybe a pen
  3. Or even a marker could do
  4. A piece of paper (most obviously)
  5. And loads of ideas!

Here are some beautiful examples of hand lettering from the net:
