Logic will get you from Point A to Point B. Creativity will get you everywhere.
Calligraphy is a visual art related to writing. It’s the implementation of lettering with a broad tip tool, brush, and other writing material.
Classic & Modern Calligraphy are skills that take a lot of time and effort. They require loads and loads of practice before one can become perfect at them. Most people resort to faux calligraphy or brush-lettering, which are ten times easier and don’t necessarily call for you to have dip pens/fountain pens. If you wish to know more about brush-lettering, see my blog on Brush-Lettering. If you wish to know more about modern calligraphy, see my blog on Modern Calligraphy.
Faux calligraphy is essentially the same as normal calligraphy, except you really don’t need any kind of dip or brush pen. That’s what makes it so easy and alluring; all you need to get started is either a pen or pencil (and some paper too of course :p).
Most of the time, people get overwhelmed by the things they see other skilled people doing on the Internet, and resort to accepting that they can’t do what others do. However, that’s not right. Everyone is capable of everything, and it’s just us that says we can’t.
First Step:
Write a word normally (preferably in cursive) on a piece of paper. Don’t try to decorate or change your handwriting to make it look more appealing, stick to your own handwriting/style.

Second Step:
Go back and thicken the downstrokes of each letter in the word, leaving the upstrokes untouched – as seen below.

Third Step:
Now, colour in the downstrokes that you’ve made on each of the letters. Thus, you will end up with the desired calligraphy.

It’s also important to remember that there are no limits to the fonts and styles of calligraphy, and that it’s not necessary for one to stick only to the cursive style (although it looks the best).
